"You will have plenty of goat's
milk to feed you and your family." Proverbs 27:27

WELCOME TO FAITHFUL FARM!
We are the Coordes Family of Floyd County, Virginia,
in the beautiful Blue
Ridge Mountains.

This is our view of Buffalo Mountain, the highest peak in the county.
The goats have the same view from their barns, but they don’t appreciate it as much as we do!
We would like to introduce you to our small herd of Nubian dairy goats. We’ve been raising these wonderful animals since
January of 1999. Our first does were three little grades that knew as much about being dairy goats as we knew about raising
dairy goats! But we soon discovered we had some excellent milkers and began breeding them to purebred bucks to produce a
lovely American line of quality milkers. Our purebred animals have come primarily from Kismet, Cedarsage, and Longman lines.
We are breeding for lovely heads and ears with good breed character and correct conformation. We strive to produce animals with strong mammary systems capable of many years of consistent milk production. Gentle and easy to handle temperaments are also important to us. Our goal is a beautiful Nubian who is also a productive and useful dairy animal. Any showing we do is purely incidental and for the pleasure and reward of our daughters.
Our herd has been on DHIR milk test since 2001. During this time we have had numerous Breed Leaders in milk production,
butterfat and protein. Our most recent top producers were Tootsie and Eclair who were both Nubian Breed Leaders in butterfat
production. DHIR test has been a helpful tool for improving milk and butterfat production in our herd. Our goal is to have each of
our does earn their Advanced Registry milking stars as first fresheners. Most of our first fresheners produce up to nearly a gallon
of milk per day and our older milkers often get to a gallon and a half per day of milk production.
We are members of the
American Dairy Goat Association, the
Virginia State Dairy Goat
Association, the International Nubian Breeders’
Association, and our local Blue Ridge Goat
Club.
Herd health is our top priority. We have consistently tested CAE negative and annually administer the Washington State ELISA test.
This year, 2008, the entire herd again tested negative for the seventh year in a row.
All vaccinations are kept current and we also provide a consistent parasite prevention program. Our animals are provided top quality hay, grain, minerals and other supplements, Bo-Se and browse. Goat kids are bottle-fed resulting in gentle and easy to handle dairy goats. They are raised separately from the adults and are disbudded, tattooed, vaccinated, dewormed, and put on a coccidiosis prevention program.

Goatkeeping and operating a home dairy require the active involvement of each member of our family. Our daughters are learning many valuable lessons from these delightful animals. The creamy delicious milk produced by our does is used by our family for drinking and cooking, made into butter and cheese, frozen or canned for future use, and, of course, fed to our goat kids. We use only Grade A quality stainless steel milking equipment and have learned that meticulous cleaning of animals and equipment helps keep our does healthy and insures that the milk is always delicious. We have discovered methods of rapidly cooling the milk to enhance its taste and keep it fresh longer.
We hope you will take a few moments to become better acquainted with our herd. We welcome any questions, suggestions or comments. Thank you for visiting Faithful Farm!
